Oban and Mull Army Cadets is a youth organisation which is part of Argyll (D) Company of the Argyll and Sutherland Highlanders Battalion ACF. Argyll Company plan to take 40 young people on a Battlefield Tour in France and Belgium in October 2018. Before we can do that we must raise in the region of £20,000. 2018 marks 100 years since the guns fell silent at the end of WW1 and we would love to allow our young people to mark this event in this very special way.
The ACF is a youth organisation, we get funding for training equipment , resources and uniforms but rely on fundraising to take part in activities like this. We are not a recruiting step for the armed forces in any way, simply a youth organisation teaching the values of good citizenship, self confidence and assisting young people prepare for their future. This would be a truly once in a lifetime opportunity for our young people and such a special way to mark WW100. Many thanks in advance.
my son has been in the cadets since the mull detachment reopened, and he really enjoys it.. he has learned so many new skills, and taken part in a lot of camps away, to which he really enjoys also.it is such a good thing to get involved in,
Hi. The ACF is a greatway for young people to do something different. Learn new life skills to help them interact with the public and thier peers and help them grow from a young person to an adult. I've been lucky enough to have met some of these young people, and have been very impressed with the they act within a group. This can only be a good thing for them.
I was fortunate enough to have been given the opportunity to reopen Mull Detachment after it being closed for around 9 or 10 years. During my time there I have always found the youngsters to be so enthusiastic and appreciative. The support we have received from parents, the School and the local community in general have all contributed to the success of this detachment. The cadets will gain a lot from this trip and I know they will continue to appreciate your support!
I’ve been involved with Army Cadets for 4 years now. I have seen 12 year olds join and leave at 18 confident young people. The cadets provides a great start to adulthood in so many ways. The feedback I receive from parents of cadets is absolutely amazing. I am proud to be involved. It’s a fantastic way to learn new life skills. I only wish I had been a cadet when I was younger.😃
