canning and preservation classes

canning and preservation classes

I’ve heard so many people say they grow food or buy from the farmers market and have to throw them out before they could use it. Canning and preserving food can be scary if you don’t know how to do it. We want to pull people together to learn from each other to preserve food.

Points

Many people are intimidated by water baths or pressure canners. It would be really helpful do it with someone to gain confidence and to share tools and resources.

Yes! Maybe the Co-op would be willing to partner with you and provide these classes. The local library or the Parks Dept also issues community classes throughout the year. http://www.pfc.coop/calendar https://www.lacrosselibrary.org/programs-classes https://cloud.3dissue.com/125963/126183/147835/LaCrosseParksRecConnectFall2019/index.html

Are there other "maker" spaces in La Crosse that could provide an initial space for meeting for little to no cost? This would then not only allow people to learn more about canning, but it would provide a continuing social aspect to it. This idea/need would also be worth bringing to the city to help them understand that more spaces like these are needed here. The farmers markets could also promote these at their events. And if people get excited about canning, they may buy more produce.
