Put small bins in school and/or public buses and keep them filled with children's books that represent the diverse children of La Crosse.
this would be a great opportunity to do a book drive at an upcoming SOUP event!
Would each bus route have a parent or school volunteer to monitor maybe? Or would the bus company be able to help I wonder? Might need to include barf bags! (ha, ha)
Children love books and it will keep them occupied while riding the bus.
Assuming some books are borrowed and never returned, how would you continue to fund this to purchase new books?
If you haven't already, would there be value in reaching out to Adam Lorenz, Transit Manager for the MTU for his thoughts, ideas, buy-in? I have partnered with him a little on another project and my guess is he would love to add support to this idea.
Yes, this sounds like a "little library on wheels." Maybe it could even be set up that people can borrow them and bring them back at a later time. I really like the diversity piece.
I LOVE this idea!!! It's like the little libraries, but on the buses! I think if the kids keep the books... GREAT! There may need to be some work around sustainment, but I really don't see that being a big problem. And i think it's likely that GO Riteway would support this too as district and community partners.
