Hello I would need help with pitching this idea and preparing the idea. I saw on one of the nightly newscasts that a high school in particular set up a laundromat at school with a washer and dryer. Some kids were being bullied according to one news report on CNN.com if the kids showed up to school in dirty clothes. A local laundromat or laundromats could help out somehow. Or maybe the schools would set up their own laundromat. Laundry detergent and dryer sheets could be sold/donated etc.
I think this is a wonderful idea!
excellent...you should contact a school like hamilton elementary and see if this is a need. i wonder if they are doing it already?
For the older kids (middle and up), could there be some education around how to properly wash and dry clothes? This is a life skill that not all kids get before going out on their own.
Yeah, I wonder too if the school you mentioned has this need or are already participating in this idea. Please go ahead and help if you have more time than me. That was a great idea!
Yes I think this set up could be part of adding life learning skills as well for kids and adults. It could be another place to donate supplies to those in need.
La Crosse Schools does offer a Family and Consumer Education curriculum piece in the secondary schools on laundry how tos.
Most but not all of the La Crosse Schools have a washer and dryer in the school building for various purposes. However, due to OSHA and infectious disease guidelines, they are used for very specific reasons. I love the idea of helping support the kids and families that will need access to a clean clothes solution. To set up a pay-to-use or donated use laundromat, the pitch will need to go through several departments in the district. I'd suggest starting with an individual school for direction.
