Community Food Hub

Community Food Hub

bringing together local growers of fresh, healthy food with local food distributers/suppliers/retailers so as to create a sustainable, resilient local food system that reduces carbon emissions, reduces food waste, and reduces food miles whilst making local food as accessible and affordable to local people as possible.

Points

Good idea

There is now an Eastbourne Food Partnership developing, with a paid co-ordinator now appointed, so this idea of a community food hub is gaining traction. Also, community fridges have been set up in several locations in town, providing easy access to cheap food for those in urgent need.

As climate change impacts may significantly disrupt global agriculture yields and international food distribution systems, it becomes ever more important to reduce our vreliance on food imports and to increase our access to healthy local food that is grown in ways that do not reduce biodiversity or increase carbon emissions.
