Rapid evaluation and innovation requires a shotgun approach to developing multiple different drugs and trying them on active sick populations, of which there is no shortage. As long as rigorous and careful methodologies for data collection and analysis in these trials are maintained, the result of this approach will be more effective drugs, sooner -- which means thousands of saved lives by any calculus.
