More green space and roadside verges should be left to grow instead of repeatedly mowing throughout the growing season. This saves money and increases the range of wildflowers available throughout the year for invertebrates. Spaces like the Millenium Green could have wildflower plugs added or fruit trees to make it a multifunctional space for children to play and a wider range of habitats. Planting the wildflowers and maintaining could be a fantastic project for local school children.
Increases biodiversity; greater engagment and enjoyment for local people
Creating new wildflower meadows and verges would also attract tourists. New sites could form part of an ecotour route.
