The town centre road is too often congested by large lorries going somewhere other than the town centre. Closing off the centre to traffic except deliveries at certain times and emergency and disabled badge vehicles would make a much more pleasant and healthy place
This would also improve air quality in the town centre. Not sure it would attract that much support from local people, though! Exceptions for EVs? Maybe start with one traffic-free day per month/week?
HDC may not be keen - loss of parking revenue!

Definately need more safe spaces for cycling that link up to existing cycle routes around Thirsk and surrounding villages /out to train station.
