We need a much better and faster way of dealing with fly-tipping.
It would help if the Council's web site were more user-friendly. It is impossible to report a flytip without a full address, ie house number and postcode. Flytips are frequently not outside someone's house, but in a quiet cul de sac or adjacent to a green space. I find it much easier to use FixMyStreet instead, where you can drag a pin on a map. These reports do get passed on to the Council and dealt with. Worth publicising.
It would help if neighbouring councils were prepared to work together. This would enable residents to cross the border in order to take their rubbish to the nearest council tip. At present for some residents not near Lewisham's tip it is too tempting to dump on the street. If people knew they could get to a more easily accessible tip they may be more likely to take it there. There did used to be a London wide scheme!
Fix my street is a useful way to report fly tipping but does nothing to stop the problem happening again
Get on top of the fly tipping and litter problem. It really is quite depressing these days. Lived here 30 years and loved it but now want to live somewhere cleaner! (Lynda M)
Absolutely agree. FixMyStreet was of no help when I reported dumped syringes/needles around my property. I ended up clearing it myself over a year later at great personal risk.
