PIUTD interventions address many of issues like the disparities in quality of urban infrastructure and environment, and tourism pedestrian accessibility and include elements of preservation and cultural heritage management, integrated street upgrading, improvement of heritage pedestrian trails, addressing soil erosion affecting the southern valley and the access to the castle, and account as beneficiaries the 19,836 inhabitants of the city of Gjirokastër as well as a large number of visitors.
