The mayor should challenge the use of vouchers in welfare support for asylum seekers and lobby for the use of cash (or for the power to use cash only in West Yorkshire).
This is not a stated responsibility of the West Yorkshire mayor but could be an initiative that the mayor takes after election by using their functional power of competence. The mayor would not have the power initially to directly bring about such change in West Yorkshire. It would require specific powers being devolved to the mayor and therefore the mayor (with support) lobbying government for such powers.
