Anti corruption laws are required to penalize corruption in political office so severely as to prevent their occurrence. Have you noticed many people on their mobile phone while driving lately - no? New penalties are so severe that people have suddenly realised that no call is worth the risk of the fines and penalty points incurred. Shops have been swamped with people looking for hands free devices even though it has been law for years. When the punishment is there, people comply with the law.
A politician, found to have acted corruptly, loses eligibility for any future elected position. They also lose salary, pension entitlements, and any asset deemed gained by such corrupt actions. They are also disqualified from sitting on any boards which had benefitted from their actions in office.
